Why I Chose the WordPress Polyglots Team

Context

After completing the onboarding process, I needed to select a WordPress contribution area for the WPCredits project.

I reviewed several teams and considered how their activities related to my interests, abilities, and academic objectives.

Procedure

I explored the descriptions and responsibilities of different WordPress contribution teams. I compared their tools, expected tasks, and requirements for new contributors.

After reviewing the available options, I selected the Polyglots team, which focuses on translating and localizing WordPress for users around the world.

Obstacles

The main difficulty was choosing only one area because several teams were related to my interests.

I also needed to understand that localization involves more than directly translating words. It requires considering context, terminology, consistency, and regional language differences.

Lessons Learned

I learned that the Polyglots team helps make WordPress accessible to people who speak different languages.

I also understood that contributors must follow translation guidelines and review existing terminology before submitting a suggestion.

Reflection

I chose this area because it combines technology, communication, and attention to detail. I am especially interested in contributing to Spanish for Costa Rica, identified as es_CR.

My next step is to become familiar with the translation platform and review the guidelines used by the team.
