What I Learned During the WordPress Onboarding Process

Context

Before making a contribution, I needed to understand how the WordPress community works and what is expected from new contributors.

The onboarding process introduced me to the available contribution teams, communication platforms, community guidelines, and basic participation requirements.

Prodecure

I reviewed the onboarding materials provided for the WPCredits project. I also explored the WordPress.org website, contributor documentation, and the different teams available within the community.

During this process, I verified my WordPress.org account and reviewed the tools that may be required for future contributions.

Evidence

Obstacles

At first, the number of contribution teams and platforms was overwhelming. Each team has its own objectives, terminology, tools, and participation process.

I also needed time to understand the difference between WordPress.com, WordPress.org, and the platforms used by contributors.

Lessons Learned

I learned that WordPress is supported by a large international community rather than a single development team. Contributors can participate according to their technical knowledge, interests, and availability.

I also understood that communication and documentation are essential parts of contributing to an open-source project.

Reflection

The onboarding process made the project feel more organized and achievable. It showed me that contributors do not need to know everything before participating.

My next step is to compare the contribution areas and select the one that best matches my interests.
