Context

After learning about the Polyglots team, I was ready to submit my first translation suggestion for Spanish in Costa Rica.

The purpose of this activity was to become familiar with the contribution platform and apply the translation guidelines I had reviewed.

Procedure

First, I entered the WordPress translation platform and selected a project with untranslated or pending strings. I reviewed the original English text and checked the context in which it appeared.

Before submitting my suggestion, I compared similar translations, reviewed the terminology, and verified the punctuation and capitalization.

Obstacles

One of the main challenges was understanding the exact context of the original string. Some words can have different translations depending on where they appear in the interface.

I also had to be careful not to translate technical elements, variables, or placeholders that needed to remain unchanged.

Lessons Learned

I learned that a translation should not be submitted based only on the literal meaning of the original text. It is necessary to review the context, existing terminology, placeholders, and regional language conventions.

I also understood why every suggestion must be reviewed before it becomes part of the translated project.
